Do you know that problem you have when you go into a bookstore and you find a bunch of books that you just have to read?  Then you look at your budget and decide you need to narrow your selection down, and then you get home and have to decide which book to read first?

Well, apparently that's my problem this week.  My son decided he needed the new Magnus Chase and the Ship of Bones book.  So I started looking around on Amazon for other books that I would like (I wasn't a huge fan of the Gods of Asgard but love the Gods of Olympus books.)

Well, I now have a crazy list of books starring the Gods of Olympus.  Which book to read first?

When Davis Finch survives a horrific plane crash, he senses supernatural forces rippling below the surface of the catastrophe. Hundreds of people are killed—his parents included—but Davis walks away from the wreckage unharmed. With his mother and father gone, and his girlfriend Alicia broken-hearted, Davis departs the East Coast to start a new life with his grandparents in Arizona, but no matter how hard the teenager attempts to forget the past he’s haunted by a single question: why me? On the road he meets Kelly, an enigmatic homeless girl who reveals powers Davis never knew existed. Amazed by her abilities he soon discovers they are eerily similar, and irrevocably attracted to one another. When Davis’ girlfriend appears to offer him her comfort and support a tense situation quickly grows volcanic, but the worst is yet to come. The fiery winged planet Nibiru will soon orbit the earth for the first time in 3,600 years, setting in motion an ancient prophecy threatening the destruction of the Greek gods, and all of mankind. Only one person is fated to save them all. Davis thinks he has survived the worst the world can throw at him, but his battle has only just begun

My name is Kaidance Monroe, and sometimes when I touch people, I see how they die. After I saw my little brother's death but failed to stop it, my parents abandoned me to a juvenile detention facility. I don't let people touch me anymore. Not my fingertips, not my skin, not my heart. Just before I turned 18, I got a visit from a cute guy, who tricked me into giving up my secrets. He said I was special, but he wasn't the only searching for me. I barely escaped with my life. Now I'm in a mansion, learning how to control my abilities - abilities so powerful, even the gods are jealous. I didn't mean to make anyone fall for me. Certainly not my would-be killer. And I never imagined how far he would fall.

Rise of the Olympians
by Belle Ward

There are no minor gods.
Lilah Jones is officially thirteen. Unfortunately, the day comes with a few twists she didn't expect. For example, her hair turned into a living rainbow and she was gifted with a golden necklace that randomly goes from being room temperature to as hot a supernova. On top of that, she has a dream that she remembers line by the line when she wakes up.

Seeking answers, Lilah meets two boys, named Cole and Adrian, who gladly clear things up. Remember the Greek myths you assumed were fiction? The old gods that you assumed were just someone's imagination? You were wrong. They've been with us the whole time, fighting battles we didn't even know existed, and they've returned. The Olympians are reuniting, preparing to fight the most dangerous battle they've ever faced.

The Father of Monsters is rising.

Olympia
by Kris Kramer
Kindle Unlimited Read

In the late 21st century, economic and religious upheavals led to widespread unrest, and then to a devastating world war. As cities began to disappear from the map, salvation came from the most unlikely of sources - the gods of Olympus, Zeus, Athena, Apollo, Ares, all recently returned to earth to save humanity from itself. Stunned nations quickly became ardent supporters, following the Greek gods in their pursuit of a new way of life, a rebuilt society in which old borders and beliefs no longer exist. A society they called Olympia.

Nearly five hundred years later, Anthony Kensom lives in the nation of Athens with his aunt and his domineering grandmother. The early loss of his parents, and his struggles since have made him an outcast, and angry at the gods who have let him suffer. An incident at school leads him into the Athenian Army, where outcasts thrive, and Anthony finds his true calling as a commander and strategist. Thrust through the ranks by skill and by fortune, he leads the soldiers of Athens into the glorified bloodsport they now call war.

But his new glory is short lived. Anti-Olympia rebels known as Faithless seek to undermine him for their own purposes, using his past in an attempt to turn him against the gods. Olympia is a cage, they protest, and the more Anthony fights against their message, the more he begins to see the chains that keep him shackled.

Unfinished Muse
by RL Naquin

A talking--and singing--houseplant named Phyllis bullies Wynter into taking a job at the Mt. Olympus Employment Agency.

Stuck with a job in the Muse department, Wynter discovers that helping others finish what they start isn't easy, especially for someone who can't seem to finish anything of her own. And how is Wynter supposed to focus on anything when that guy from the Dreams and Nightmares department keeps distracting her with his rippling muscles and magnetic stare?

Wynter needs to figure her job out soon. Each failure is a tick mark on her record, and if she continues to miss her deadlines, she'll be reassigned to the Underworld as a dog walker.

And scooping poop for a giant three-headed dog is nobody's ideal career.

by Eris Adderly

Catch me, Darkness. Again and again.

The life of a virgin goddess might suit Artemis or Athena, but Persephone, daughter of Zeus, wants no part of it. While the rest of the immortals cavort, she grows restless in the shadow of Olympos.

Rules, rules. Always the rules. Her mother’s edict forbids her the company of any male god. She can’t speak to them, can’t look at them. Can’t even attend the Olympian feasts. As far as Demeter knows, her daughter remains a maiden.

But Persephone leads a double life. She finds her affection elsewhere, and in plentiful supply. If only the sons of Man made her happy. If only she could put a name to this need she feels. It grows by the day, dark and unfulfilled. An eternity of enforced loneliness looms, and Persephone contemplates a drastic choice to escape it.

Only one thing stands in her way.

Hades.

Where earthquakes rend hill and vale asunder, and the abyss yawns to devour falling screams, the black halls of the Underworld await. The Lord of the Dead follows only one set of rules: his own.

And he expects Persephone to obey.
